"I was inspired by live theatre, musicals and old movies. Creating characters led to my passion for doing hair which has honed my expertise in this industry for over 30 years."

Monty Schuth found his calling after falling in love with theatre working backstage at a repertory company at the age of 12. Fueled by the great sense of character creation, he began to extensively study different time periods through theater and film, asking the important questions: What is the time period? What did they wear? Who did their hair? Where did they live? What did they do when they got up in the morning? What social influences shaped the character? All of these affect how a character wears their hair. Actors often feel that the character isn’t complete until the hair is there. That's where the magic lies.

Monty's talent, dedication and desire for accuracy gave him the status of go-to hairstylist in Atlanta for Hair Design, Wigs and Facial Hair, Custom Wefts, and especially Period Barbering. Along with his achievements in Film & Television, Monty has proudly worked with The Atlanta Shakespeare Company for 25 years, supervised the Wigs for the Atlanta Opera for over 20 years, and 7 years with the famed Alliance Theatre under the direction of Kenny Leon. In 2015, Monty received the Suzi Bass Lifetime Achievement Award in Atlanta Theatre. Theatrical highlights include acclaimed Summer Stock tours of "Hello, Dolly!" starring Madeline Kahn and "Dreamgirls" starring Jennifer Holliday, and the world premier of Alfred Urey’s "Last Night of the Ballyhoo".

Next to his theater achievements, Monty began his foray into film creating Cate Blanchett’s hairpiece for "The Gift". That success led him to ongoing period pieces on "The Vampire Diaries", Wig-Maintenance for "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn", creating Jullianne Hough’s hairpiece for "Footloose", and even creating the iconic wig for Tyler Perry's Madea in "Diary of a Mad Black Woman". His television work includes the Second Season of AMC's "Halt & Catch Fire", HBO's "Bessie" and "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks", the CW's "The Vampire Diaries", and Fox's "Sleepy Hollow".
